Portland
Legal Defense Network
The
Portland Legal Defense
Network is an unaffiliated grassroots organization dedicated to
providing
empowerment, education, resources, and other support to the radical and
progressive community of Portland, Oregon, and its defense of social,
economic,
animal, and environmental (i.e., political) justice. We believe that
protecting
the legal rights of people doing
direct action and providing them effective legal support is imperative.
We
share the National Lawyers Guild's goal of using the law as an
instrument to
protect, not repress people and will do this through legal trainings,
jail
support, and referrals to lawyers and health care professionals (for
post-action aftercare). We hope to inspire people to learn to use the
law to
make effective political statements rather than being frightened,
alienated,
undermined, or divided by the legal system.
